Chris Jowett – Biography

Chris started off his Chartered Surveying career by obtaining an Estate Management degree at Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1978.  His first appointment was as a graduate valuer working in the Calderdale District Valuer’s Office in Halifax.

He decided to move into private practice after qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1981.  He then joined the Halifax branch of Eddisons as Assistant Valuer to partner Andrew Backhouse and remained there for three years.

In 1984 Chris was promoted to run the Brighouse office of Eddisons, dealing with residential sales, building society and bank valuations, as well as new build for developers.

Within three years he became an Associate in Eddisons and was promoted again to work in the Huddersfield Office alongside the Eddisons Senior Residential Partner, Douglas Hoyle.  Following Mr Hoyle's retirement in 1987 Chris took on the role of joint manager with Raymond Butterworth.

Eddisons were taken over by the Leeds Permanent Building Society in the late 1980s, and a few years later Chris was offered the chance to become a partner in Brearley-Greens, to set up and manage their new Huddersfield Office.  This he accepted in 1989 and successfully ran the branch for approximately 20 years.

In 2009 the opportunity arose for Chris to establish his own practice - Jowett Chartered Surveyors.  Now, with the help of his two sons, Gareth and Rhys, who have both worked in the industry for over three years in between graduate studies, Chris is finally realising his personal ambition.
